There were some serious fashion hits and a few devastating misses on the red carpet at the Oscars…Let the games begin!

BEST BEAUTIES ON THE CARPET…

Jennifer Lopez—Nobody does the bun better (or has better buns, lol) than Jennifer! With a face like that, she should wear a bun every day…except, she’d probably have no hairline if she did that. But you get what I mean :)

Tina Fey—YAYYYYYY!!!!! So Happy to see Tina Fey with her hair all done up in a dramatic, movie star bun. She’s finally embracing her a-list status and workin’ the cameras. Love itTina!!! See, the funny lady can be FAB!!

Cameron Diaz—The “chic-est shag of the night” award goes to Cameron Diaz! LOVE this light airy hair. The cut has grown out a little since she first debuted it, and its really looking GORG now! Stunning Cameron!

HEAD TO TOE PERFECTION…

Octavia Spencer—This woman (and designer Tadashi Shoji) knows exactly what she’s doing on the red carpet. And its working!!!! Congratulations Octavia on the Oscar win and the fashion coup!

Gwyneth Paltrow—I’ve never seen such a sleek svelte body in stark white!! Gwyneth’s body is SICK!! THIS is how you do high fashion and still look pretty! I love that a gal who’s almost 40 can look this HOT!! BTW: Tom Ford is a design GENIUS!! Thank GOD he’s back!

AND NOW, THE NOT SO PRETTY..

Rooney Mara—Pretty face, ugly hair…what else is there to say?! Oh, and not enough body for the dress either. Tragic!

Viola Davis—I’m just confused. I don’t get why you’d pick NOW to start experimenting with a new hairstyle. I cannot grasp why your hair and face (and lipstick) are almost the same color…congrats for being the first dark skinned woman to look washed out at the Oscars. I don’t understand why Vera Wang can design 3 impeccably fit dresses for Kim Kardashian’s fake wedding, but she sticks poor Viola Davis in an ill-fitting cheap bridesmaid dress from the David’s bridal collection. Like I said…I’m confused. But one thing I know for sure—this whole look was AWFUL!!

Fashion week fall 2012

The Fall 2012 collections were on display this week in the big apple, and after seeing countless shows and observing all the looks that will rule the racks at stores in the next few months, there were three trends in particular that I really loved!!

The magic of messy hair

The models at the Mara Hoffman show had the coolest coifs of the week! The big, windblown hair was a runway hit, but the look won’t be too difficult to reinterpret for real life. Its refreshing to think that when windy weather sets in again, messy hair will be considered cool. Can’t wait!

Crayola Colors

Gone are the days of doom and gloom clothing for cold weather. Several designers showed bright bold colors in their fall 2012 collections but Tracey Reese did it best! Her vibrant jewel tones and beautiful textured fabrics are definitely something to look forward to next fall.

Modern Day Mod

Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe staged her very first runway show and it was a smashing success!! Inspired by 60’s rock & roll, the collection channeled Mick Jagger’s rebellious sexy vibe, with a 2012 attitude. The super long, ultra sleek middle-parted hair on the models was so FAB!!!

Kelly Rowland! Really?!?!?!?!?!! This is how you wear your hair to the Grammy’s?? WTF?!! I can (barely) get over the casual hair not going with the fancy gown, but why are your un-weaved edges tucked under your ear instead of blended into weave??? TRAGIC!

The easiest way to ruin a beautiful dress is with BUSTED HAIR!!! If that was your intention Kelly, then mission accomplished but if not FIRE YOUR HAIR STYLIST IMMEDIATELY!!! This just shouldn’t happen to a Grammy winning superstar :(

Ok clearly we’re kind of impartial to longer locks here at HDH Haute, so obviously I was pretty horrified when I first saw Cameron Diaz’s new haircut. I thought “has this girl lost her mind ?!?!”. But I have to admit, after seeing the way she’s creatively found ways to switch it up and make it look different every night that she’s been in Paris for the shows, I’m starting to feel a little less worried. I was really loving her hair at that just past the shoulder length but, its gone and this isn’t THAT bad. And at least she’s found ways to have fun with it and make it chic in that quirky Cameron way.

I’m usually super tough on Angelina Jolie. While most people look at her and, by default, still delusionally see her as the hot & sexy vixen she was back in Lara Croft days, to me she’s been looking pale, bony, and like she’s been run ragged by her twenty five kids. Having said all that, I believe in giving credit where it’s due and I’ve been PLEASANTLY surprised this award season by Ms. Jolie’s upgrade. Not only have her dresses been TIGHT, her hair and makeup are the best they’ve been in quite some time and her skin has been absolutely radiant.

Her hair in particular though, which I usually find to look unkempt (and frankly kind of thin), has been looking exceptionally beautiful and totally effortless at the same time. BRAVO Angelina!! I still think you could use a spray tan and a sandwhich, BUT you’re looking pretty swell. Keep up the good work (PLEASE).

Of all the young starlets trying to establish themselves as true Hollywood beauties, Keke Palmer is leading the race. Although still making that [sometimes difficult] transition from child star to grown-up actress, Keke has the spirit and the confidence to rock super long extensions with ease.

A season of bad crops

Change is ONLY good when said change is for the better, especially when it comes to chopping your locks. In the case of many Hollywood starlets, switching their hair styles from long to short has been a complete disaster!!!

It took Ashlee Simpson SOOOOOOO long to escape her big sis’s shadow and find her way in fashion. But just when things started to look great in the hair department (the color, the length, the style) she did the UNTHINKABLE!!! Enter the bad blond crop with washed out skin to match :(

Brooklyn made a boo boo!!!! Right after being crowned cover girl of the sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, Ms. Decker decided it would be a good idea to cut her magnificent blond mane into this crooked shaggy mess. EW!!!!

Olivia Munn had finally cemented herself as a bonafide “hot chick” when she chose to chop her silky dark locks into this hot mess!! The 4th grade class photo look isn’t sexy Olivia!!

Katherine Heigl’s hair has never really been her strong point, but when she went dark and added a few tracks, I started to see some real glimmers of hope. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, now she’s right back where she started…ridiculous retro! SIGH!

Jessica Szohr…What can I say? This is crop is completely inexplicable! You’re out of a job and I doubt you’ll get one anytime soon with this awful hair cut.

Bravo Julianne Hough! I’m SO glad you’re grabbing that red carpet spotlight by stepping outside the box with your beauty routine and trying new things. Many have tried this “old Hollywood glam” look, and MANY have failed (ahem, Katherine Heigl, see below), but you got it right! You totally nailed the throwback bouncy waves—which is usually the first part of the look to flop (ahem, Katherine Heigl, see below)!! And the red lips are spot on! Good job girl!

I guess you’ve truly “made it” when you don’t even have to show up to events, you can send a wax figure of yourself to get photographed on the red carpet.

OH WAIT!!! Apparently, Tyra Banks really WAS at the Keep a child alive event in NYC. Her make up was just so…HEAVY, and the baby hairs were just so…GREASED. I was certain the real Tyra was having a quiet dinner at home with her man, but it turns out this was Miss Banks in the flesh. YIKES!! Hopefully she’ll get the ball rolling on a new look (and a wig from high definition hair) and come back strong in 2012. Good luck Tyra!

Good Crop, Bad Crop

I have a love hate relationship with short cropped haircuts… love em when the cut is tight and tapered to perfection (on a girl with a gorgeous face), hate em when the cut is sloppy and choppy on a girl that’s ahm, “handsome”. And such is the case with Michelle Williams and Carey Mulligan.

I’m big on starting with the positive, which would be Michelle Williams’s perfect pixie cut. LOVE!! See how neat, and precise the cut is?! Its like each piece is cut individually and lays exactly where its suppose to. Her soft, pretty features simply shine. She looks GORG!

And now on to the bad news…Carey Mulligan needs a new stylist and a new haircut. This cut is NOT clean, its NOT sharp (which are a MUST with short hair), and most importantly it does NOT fit her face. I can’t believe that someone whose star is rising so quickly and gets so much attention for her style (which also confuses me) doesn’t have one single HONEST person in her camp to tell her that she isn’t pretty enough for this hairdo. I’m not trying to be mean, NO ONE is pretty enough for this bad cut! Good luck Carey.

Everyone is talking about how thin and frail Demi Moore looked at the “Margin Call” premiere, but personally, I all I notice is her GORGEOUS dark, shiny hair!!

The minimal makeup takeover

Some of Hollywood’s hottest really stepped it up on the red carpet at the Elle magazine Women in Hollywood tribute last week. The biggest trend of the night was definitely less is more makeup (so clearly the Kardashians weren’t in attendance), and a few ladies in particular not only got the memo, they absolutely NAILED the look.

Jennifer Aniston

Ms. Aniston’s glam squad does it again!! Chris McMillan worked his easy breezy magic on her hair. Not sure who did the makeup, but the less is more makeup was so fresh and pretty, not to mention the PERFECT face for a sparkly frock. Well done!

I also wanna give a shout to Jennifer Aniston’s metallic mini dress! I Love the fit, the style, the color and most of all the confidence. She looks so comfortable and effortless, her face is saying “Oh this lil ole thing, you like it? I just pulled it outta my closet”. BRAVO!!!

The sleek low ponytail is pure genius, I love how it shows off that stunning face…and speaking of the face, the soft hint of shimmer on her eyes and cheeks with the rosy glossed lips is AMAZING!!! So so pretty!

Nicole Richie

As far as fashion, Ms. Richie can do no wrong in my book and I love seeing her get the hair and makeup right too! This look is SO glam but doesn’t go overboard. The cat eyeliner with otherwise “barely there” makeup is such a smart move and the pretty pink pout seals the deal. The Old Hollywood style bouffant with bangs is spectacular too! LOVE IT!!
